Lately I’ve been exploring ways 2 draw in inspiration to create great music. As artists we might hear what sound is hot at the moment and accidentally make a song that sounds similar, and it could be a good song but you’re not being genuine. The competition is getting tuff these days, and I say that because I’ve heard alot of good music this year.
So for me, I listen to music that is rare old and no where near the type of music I do. And when I get that music I listen! I listen like the sound is physical. I ask my self questions about that song. What kind of story, mood, expression, goal and potential does this song have? From that feeling I create. I come up with a concept that might not necessarily be the same, but it could at least strike the same chord in a person’s heart. I mean if you’re not attacking the soul when making music then you might not have a long career. At the end of the day it’s healthy, it stretches your personality and allow you to jump into another world. So find an album you would most likely never listen too. Or ask a friend what they recommend you to listen to that they think you might not like. Be open! and the first track that you relate to and feel, that’s the one you start extracting key elements to rebuild you own song, it will be nice. But it has to be sumthing you don t normally listen to! Like if you do rap and the song is a Latin slow ballad then make that feeling yours and hiphop.
